Blocked drain diagnosis for kitchens, bathrooms and outside drainage.
Slow drainage, gurgling, unpleasant odours or wastewater backing up can point to a restriction somewhere in the system. The useful first step is to understand which fixtures are affected and whether the problem is isolated or shared across the property.
Common signs
Slow sinks or showers, a toilet that will not clear, gurgling fixtures, drain smells or water appearing at an overflow point.
Recurring problems
If a blockage keeps returning, further investigation may help identify damage, root intrusion, build-up or another underlying issue.
How we approach blocked drains
We start by asking what has changed and checking the affected fixtures and accessible drainage points. The next step depends on the symptoms, access and likely location of the obstruction. CCTV drain inspection can be used where appropriate to look inside accessible pipework and support a more informed recommendation.
- Assessment of affected fixtures and drainage symptoms
- Investigation of isolated or property-wide blockages
- CCTV drain inspection where appropriate
- Clear explanation of findings and repair options
- Testing drainage after approved work is completed
Before the appointment
Avoid repeatedly using chemical drain cleaners, especially when the product already used is unknown. Let us know what went down the drain, whether any products have been added, and if wastewater is close to overflowing. This helps us plan the attendance safely.
Blocked drain questions
When is a CCTV inspection useful?
It can be useful when a blockage is recurring, the cause is not clear, or the condition and route of accessible pipework need to be checked. It is not required for every drainage issue.
Why do several fixtures gurgle?
Multiple fixtures reacting at once can indicate that the restriction is affecting a shared section of drainage. An on-site diagnosis is needed to confirm the cause.
What if wastewater is overflowing?
Stop using the affected fixtures and keep people away from contaminated water. Call us with the location and extent of the overflow so the situation can be discussed promptly.
